The Black Girl Wellbeing Book Club is a reflective and community centered space created for Black women to gather, read, and process stories that speak to our lived experiences. Together, we explore literature that centers healing, identity, rest, resilience, and emotional wellness while holding space for honest conversation and shared understanding. This book club is not about academic analysis or having the “right” answer, but about connection, reflection, and being seen.
Our theme for this Winter is WELL Rested. So we have two books we'll be using as the basis for our conversation about practicing Deep Rest in our lives-- We Will Rest by Tricia Hersey and Rest is Sacred by Octavia Raheem.
✨ No pressure, just presence! You don’t have to have read the whole book to join us. We recommend reading as much as possible. But you will be able to participate even if you haven't read.
After our discussion, we're going to have a Rest Circle, guided by Yodit Mesfin Johnson, so we can practice what we're learning together. So bring a blanket, pillow, and whatever else you need to make a comfy "rest nest".
✨ What to expect:
Guided, thoughtful discussion facilitated by a licensed therapist
A supportive and affirming environment centered on Black women’s voices and experiences
Space to reflect, share insights, or simply listen at your own comfort level
Gentle prompts that connect the reading to emotional wellbeing, relationships, and daily life
Community building through meaningful conversation and collective care
Unfortunately, this location does NOT have elevator access to the 2nd floor, where we are meeting.
Register ASAP! There's limited space.
📚 We've ordered a limited amount of the books that are FREE to our community. They are available for pick up on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS, at the Book Love Bar. (1 book per person) We will update this form and notify everyone registered when all of our copies have been claimed. You can also call (734-714-6124) to check before you head to the store.
If your plans change after registering, please let us know so we can be good stewards of our resources and make space for another sister to join.
