Happy Hooves Wellness Field Trip

We see you, Sis! And  we are calling you OUTSIDE! So many of us are always on, mind in the past or in the future. Our eyes are often glued to screens or scanning for other people's needs or the next stressor.

Being Village — our theme this season — reminds us that we were never meant to be this depleted, and disconnected. From nature. From our bodies. From each other. We are part of something living and breathing and deeply interconnected. And sometimes, the best teachers aren't in a book or on a screen. Sometimes, they have four legs and know things we've forgotten.

Join us for a guided animal learning experience at Happy Hooves Farm — where horses, ponies, goats, and chickens will be our teachers for the day.

Here's what moved us when we met with the facilitator: horses read energy. They don't respond to who you were last week or what your title is. They meet you exactly as you are, right now, in this body, in this moment — and they leave room for you to be different tomorrow. That kind of presence! Do we have that with ourselves? With each other? We're gonna learn and practice with our animal friends.

Here's more: horses hold roles within their herd — and those roles shift fluidly as needs change. Not fixed. Not rigid. Just deep attunement to each other and to the moment. As we build village together, there is something here to learn about how we hold our own roles — with openness, with fluidity, with trust in each other.

This experience is guided, and it's also flexible — responsive to where we are and what the animals are experiencing right alongside us. We come with curiosity instead of an agenda. We practice power with, not power over. We let nature lead.

After, we'll share a picnic lunch in a beautiful outdoor space, and some time to sit together, reflect and discus.

What to bring: Closed-toed shoes and clothes that can handle a little dirt and a lot of goodness. Come as you are — ready to receive.

BGW Book Club—POSTPONED

UPDATE: Stay tuned for the new date and time!

This month we have the unique opportunity to have the author join us for Book Club! We are so honored to welcome Andrea ("Drea") Yvonne Buckley, LMSW — therapist, poet, and community curator — to join us for this conversation to share more about the heart behind the book. She weaves together mental health, storytelling, and spirituality to create spaces where people can soften, reconnect, and be fully seen.

The Book: Heart Medicine: The Art of Reconnecting to Your Heart — a debut collection that weaves together over 50 poems alongside guided journaling prompts, rituals, and discussion questions designed for healing in community and nurturing a deeper relationship with yourself. It's a book that was made for exactly the kind of gathering we create together.

📚 Get the book:Heart Medicine is self-published and available on Amazon. We encourage you to grab a copy and read as much as you can before we meet — but no pressure. You can participate fully no matter how much you've read. 👉 HERE

This is not about academic analysis or having all the answers. It's about connection, reflection, and being in community with women who get it. Whether you're an avid reader or just curious — there's a place for you here.

Field Trip--Tai Chi and Qigong

We're going on another field trip, having another experience together, trying a new tool to support our wellbeing. We're going to take a beginner's class in Tai Chi and Qigong with Wasentha Young, Black woman instructor and founder. These practices have been described as moving meditations, and both modalities have numerous benefits for body and mind. Here are a few...

  • Lower cortisol levels, reduce anxiety, and alleviate depression by fostering a mindful, calm state

  • Reduce chronic pain and inflammation, increasing range of motion and improving muscle strength

  • The slow, rhythmic motions help lower blood pressure, improve circulation, and enhance lung capacity

Dr. Mishelle, a psychologist and trauma expert, will guide a discussion, give additional tips to help you carry what you learn into your everyday life.

Spots are limited, so be sure to secure yours now! This is your invitation to slow down, tune in, and pour back into yourself. We can't wait to share this space with you.

NOTE: The location is downstairs, and there is NO ELEVATOR ACCESS.

Book Club

The Black Girl Wellbeing Book Club is a reflective and community centered space created for Black women to gather, read, and process stories that speak to our lived experiences. Together, we explore literature that centers healing, identity, rest, resilience, and emotional wellness while holding space for honest conversation and shared understanding. This book club is not about academic analysis or having the “right” answer, but about connection, reflection, and being seen.

Our theme for this Winter is WELL Rested. So we have two books we'll be using as the basis for our conversation about practicing Deep Rest in our lives-- We Will Rest by Tricia Hersey and Rest is Sacred by Octavia Raheem.

✨ No pressure, just presence! You don’t have to have read the whole book to join us. We recommend reading as much as possible. But you will be able to participate even if you haven't read.

After our discussion, we're going to have a Rest Circle, guided by Yodit Mesfin Johnson, so we can practice what we're learning together. So bring a blanket, pillow, and whatever else you need to make a comfy "rest nest".

What to expect:

  • Guided, thoughtful discussion facilitated by a licensed therapist

  • A supportive and affirming environment centered on Black women’s voices and experiences

  • Space to reflect, share insights, or simply listen at your own comfort level

  • Gentle prompts that connect the reading to emotional wellbeing, relationships, and daily life

  • Community building through meaningful conversation and collective care

Unfortunately, this location does NOT have elevator access to the 2nd floor, where we are meeting.

Register ASAP! There's limited space.

📚  We've ordered a limited amount of the books that are FREE to our community. They are available for pick up on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS, at the Book Love Bar. (1 book per person) We will update this form and notify everyone registered when all of our copies have been claimed. You can also call (734-714-6124) to check before you head to the store.

If your plans change after registering, please let us know so we can be good stewards of our resources and make space for another sister to join.

Yoga For Blackgirl Wellbeing

Yoga For Blackgirl Wellbeing

This New Year, we’re doing something different.

Instead of rushing into resolutions, productivity, or pep-rally visioning, we’re creating space to slow down, listen inward, and tend to ourselves with care. This Black Girl WELLbeing gathering is a cozy, grounding New Year reset designed for Black women who are ready to move out of holiday busyness and back-to-work pressure—and into intentionality, presence, and authenticity.

What to Expect

We’ll begin with a gentle, grounding yoga practice to help us settle into our bodies, regulate our nervous systems, and reconnect with ourselves. This is about centering—not pushing—so the practice will be accessible, supportive, trauma-informed, and accessible for all levels of experience and ability.

  • Bring a yoga mat. We will have a few extra.

From there, we’ll move into reflective and creative practices, including:

  • Vision boarding

  • Guided journaling and reflection prompts

There will be multiple options for engaging—guided activities if you want structure, and open space if you prefer to move at your own pace. You’re welcome to choose what feels right for you in the moment. We will have materials. We can always use more magazines if you have them. Also, feel free to bring any additional materials you want.

The Vibe

✨ Cozy
✨ Nourishing
✨ Soft and spacious
✨ Reflective, not performative
✨ Rooted in connection—with yourself and with community

We’ll also share warm, nourishing food and beverages, and create an environment that feels comforting, grounding, and welcoming—like a collective exhale.

Come as you are. Participate as much—or as little—as feels supportive. This space is about honoring your fullness, celebrating your WHOLE (past/present/future) SELF, and beginning the year from a place of care rather than urgency.

Location Details:

  • The venue has a small parking lot. Give yourself time to find street parking or one of the nearby free parking lots if needed.

  • Use the middle entrance door. There is an elevator right inside.

Register ASAP! There's limited space. Don't miss out on this opportunity to take care of yourself and nurture your mind, body, and soul. See you there!
